Color change Sapphire, 2.45 cts, natural, mined in Umba, Tanzania, lavender/pink (indoor) to steely-blue/grey with a hint of green outdoor, untreated, unheated
This color change sapphire from Umba Tanzania weighs 2.45 cts, has a nearly clear, light blue/grey/lavender color in daylight, with a tinge of green as the daylight reaches its end. Beautiful. Some subtle silk (i.e., rutile) inclusions visible under magnification, but appears clean to the naked eye.
The shift to a vivid lavender pink indoors under LED or incandescent light (making this sapphire have a somewhat greenish to reddish color-change often referred to an alexandritic color-change) is very pronounced. Essentially, this is a steely grey-blue to lavender-pink color change, with pink/lavender very obvious in indoor light absent daylight, with a slight blue tinged clear/grey dominating with daylight excites the stone. This color-change pattern is somewhat rare, even for Umba color-change sapphires.
Would make a beautiful ring stone or pendant stone.
