Precision Lapidary & Custom Design

Based in the Piedmont region of North Carolina, SymmArt Gems focuses on the custom faceting of natural loose gemstones and bespoke jewelry design.

We work to craft our faceting designs around the specific form and character of the rough stones being cut, utilizing intricate faceting designs constructed in-house to realize the potential of each natural stone. We regularly collaborate with collectors, jewelers, and private clients to source unique rough material, craft custom faceted gems, and deliver one-off jewelry pieces.

Where Mathematics Meets Mineralogy

Our journey into precision gem cutting and design in part stemmed from a collision of interests in gemology and mathematics research and teaching time in higher education, in particular on so-called “exceptional symmetries” and the algebraic geometry of high-energy theoretical physics.

The name SymmArtGems comes from an appreciation of the interplay between the rich mathematics of symmetry—in particular that of exceptional symmetries—and the creative aims gem cutters encounter in practice while working to bring out the potential in each rough stone.

Sourcing & Specifications

We source our rough material globally from established mineral vendors in the industry. For custom commissions, we can accommodate specific carat weights, millimeter dimensions for commercial settings, or custom-cut stones from our active rough inventory.
